Local community farm seeks to buy Garden Organic land
Five Acre Community Farm wants to grow its successful organic vegetable business by buying the land which has been its home for 6yrs – at Ryton Organic Gardens. Ever since the land has been put up for sale for development by Garden Organic, Five Acre have been working on a plan to keep the land in organic production.
Five Acre want to increase community involvement by keeping both the farm and gardens accessible to the community, expanding the potential for education and wellbeing, and increasing their production of great veg. Five Acre Community Farm wants to link up with other local food and gardening projects and charities to promote access to fresh, locally grown organic veg. They also have plans to provide access for schools and community groups.
If successful with their bid, they want to raise the money through a community share offer, enabling the land to be protected as a community growing space for the future.
